Curse of the Shamra: Life Lessons Stories is a collection of three short stories dealing with issues important to
both teens and adults alike: obesity, spousal abuse, and selfishness. It is especially appropriate for use in schools and with groups
that have organized reading activities, as there are questions and activities following each story to develop critical thinking skills. And,
while each story has a message, none of them preach, and there is no one solution to the problems discussed. As a matter of fact in two of
the stories you'll find an alternate ending. It's up to the reader to determine which they like best, or if there is a solution
not presented. Below are the contents (taking from the introduction to the book)."Me, Me and Only Me" focuses on selfishness and the lack of consideration that seems to be becoming the norm, rather than the exception, these days. Agree? Disagree? That's up to you. "Crying on the Inside" deals with spousal abuse. How does a wife deal with an abusive husband? There are no easy answers and few happy endings. "Bad Influence" tackles the issue of obesity. As I said, I don't preach in my stories. While obesity is the subject matter of this tale, I got lost in the telling of the story. Therefore, you won't find answers to the problem of child obesity, but you'll learn why one girl overeats and how Dara and Pilla try to help her overcome her addiction to sweets. This story has one ending. It's not a happily-ever-after ending, but it does offer some hope. Or maybe not. You be the judge.
